This is KGY Radio on Olympia's waterfront in Olympia, Washington. During the March 2013 Northwest Slack Key Tour, emcee Harry B. Soria, Jr. was sightseeing on the Sound when the group happened upon the site of KGY Radio. The KGY call letters were issued to Father Sebastian in April of 1922, and the pioneering station went on the air a few months later in the same year. Earlier in 1922, KGU radio was issued their call letters in Honolulu, Hawaii. KGU went on the air on May 11, 1922. Historically, it would appear that 3 other stations may have had call letters issued between these 2 stations that may have used the third letters of V, W, & X. All radio stations launching after 1925 were issued 4 letter call letter sets rather than 3 letter call letter sets like KGY and KGU. (Photo: Ann Lau)
