The 49th State Fair - Radio Ad - Tonto - 1952
In post World War II Honolulu, many new businesses were named "49th State" because businessmen were anticipating Hawaii's eventual attainment of Statehood.
However, no one realized that Alaska would actually gain that distinction, and Hawaii would end up as the 50th State of the USA.
Until 1958, the "49th State Fair" was a well attended event on Sand Island, with carnival rides and midway provided by carnival & circus entrenpeneur, Wally Yee.
The actors playing "Tonto & the Lone Ranger" were hired to make an appearance at the fair from 7/01/1952 thru 7/09/1952.
This is the actual radio spot that "Tonto" cut on an acetate platter to promote the fair on Hawaiian radio.
